There are some side effects of using thyme oil, they
include: allergic reactions, skin inflammation, stomach upset, and potential
issues with pregnancy.
·
Allergic reactions: Allergies to thyme are not
uncommon, and people who are allergic to other plants in the lamiaceae family,
such as basil, rosemary, sage and lavender, may also be sensitive to thyme oil.
It can manifest in stomach upset, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting when consumed.
·
Skin irritation: Some people who have sensitive
skin have negative reactions when powerful, undiluted natural oils are put on
their skin. This could show up as redness, itchiness, rashes or hives
particularly when you don’t dilute the oil with another oil.
You should first apply a small amount to
your skin first and see if any reaction occurs, before the fully usage.
·
Pregnancy: One of the common effects of thyme
oil is to stimulate menstruation and regulate the period. For pregnant women,
it could be dangerous for the fetus and possibly triggers a miscarriage or
premature labor.
So therefore, the oil is not recommended
for use by pregnant women, except by your doctor’s permission.
·
Blood pressure: Thyme oil can help to increase
circulation, which often elevates blood pressure, making the oil a bad choice
for someone who is already dealing with hypertension.
